This study was conducted to conceptualize the changes on intellectual disabilities through a golf exercise.
To this end, we had interview with the mothers of 17 people with intellectual disabilities who participated
in the golf exercise for more than 6 months. Through the interview we obtained 56 statements about the
changes on that has occurred since the golf exercise. After the grouping and rating the statements, The
data were analyzed by multi-dimensional scaling analysis, cluster analysis and pattern-matching.
On the results of analysis, Golf exercise was to bring a change, in terms of motor function,
self-care/self-esteem, socioemotional adjustment, self-efficacy, social interaction and community
participation, to people with intellectual disabilities. Social interaction showed the highest change, while
motor function shows the lowest change among the 6 clusters.
Finally, socioemotional adjustment and self-efficacy were recommended to the importance outcomes of
future golf training program for people with intellectual disabilities.
