아리스토텔레스의 저작 범주론은 중세를 거치면 서 주로 논리학적인 저작으로 알려져 왔다. 그러나 범주론은 논리학적인 저작일 뿐만 아니라 형이상학적인 저작이기도 하 다. 이를 보이기 위해 본 논문은 플라톤의 파르메니데스에서 제기되는 몇 가지 형이상학적인 어려움이 어떻게 범주론에서 해결되는지를 살펴보며, 또한 범주론에서 나타나는 실체에 대한 아리스토텔레스의 주장이 어떻게 이해되어야 할 것인지를 살펴보도록 할 것이다. 그렇게 함으로써 본 논문은, 범주론이 왜 형이상학적 저작인지를 설명하도록 할 것이다.
Aristotle's 『Categories』 has been understood as a logical work. But the truth is that it is not only a logical work but also a metaphysical one. This article seeks to explain this fact. To show this, it is necessary to understand how some metaphysical difficulties of Plato's Parmenides could be solved by a metaphysical device of Categories. And it is also necessary to understand the meaning of 'substance' in Categories. After explaining these ontological facts, we can understand Categories as a logical and metaphysical work.
