영문초록

A study was conducted to examine the moral judgment of kindergarteners, second graders, fifth graders, and sophomores in University in Busan Korea. Short-term longitudinal data were obtained for second graders : The interval between each assessment was 10 months. Piaget(1932) found that there are age-related differences in sensitivity to consequence severity and interest information. Children younger than 7 years of age appear to rely primarily on consequence severity when evaluating another's transgression. Children older than 10, on the other hand, usually rely primarily on intentions in evaluating another's transgression. While, Nucci & Turiel(1978) demonstrated that people of all ages distinguish between those actions(moral) having an intrinsic effect upon the rights or wellbeing of others , and actions(social conventional) whose propriety is determined by the societal context. In this study, between the mean ages of 5.4 and 22.8 years, however , it appears that children may rely on consequence rather than on intentions when the moral intentions is important, valuable, and significant . Such a result seems to be able to explain the limits of Piaget's age related intentions versus consequence formula and of Nucci & Turiel's formula of differentiation between moral and social conventional conceptions in cultural variables. Young children are intuitive moralist. Although 5.4-year olds have little reflective understanding of their moral knowledge, they nontheless have an intuitive moral competence that displays itself in the way they answer questions about moral issues. It seems that, therefore, for any person or people matter of moral depend upon the importance, value, and significance assigned to the moral content itself.
