This study was for a preschooler who has difficulties with independent behavior. The purpose
of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of the ABA intervention plan which was designed for
reinforcing the behaviors: independently bringing and organizing toys and extinction of speaking
“with the teacher” which shows dependence. The effectiveness of the ABA intervention was evaluated
by a reversal design, ABA. In this study, positive reinforcement was planned and applied consistently.
using primary(a bite of snack) and secondary reinforcement (praise, encouragement and token
economy).
As a result of this study, latency of ‘independently bringing and organizing toys’ and speaking
“with the teacher” were decreased. This aspect can be interpreted as increment of independent
behavior and reduction of dependence. Also, through this study, it was meaningfully reported that
the child's play preferences were more variously expanded than before.
This study identified the single child's characteristics in detail and established a systematic
intervention plan. However, it has a limit to generalize because the intervention plan reflects only
a single target's characteristics. Thus, even though other participants have the same independent
behavior difficulty, applying the same intervention plan of this study should consider individual
differences. Further evaluation should be conducted to verify how well the child generalize
independent behaviors, reinforced by the intervention plan, to the different environment settings such
as home and a kindergarten.
