이 연구의 목적은 대학 단위 차원에서 수행한 교육과정 개혁에 직접 참여하여 특정의 전공교과를 가르친 교수진의 체험과 인식을 심층적으로 조사하여 대학 교육과정 운영에 대한 교수진의 관점을 종 합적으로 이해하는 데 있다. 질적 연구 방법인 심층 면담을 활용한 이 연구의 대상은 전남대학교가 교 육과정 개혁 차원에서 도입한 ‘논술중심전공교과’에 참여한 교수 10명이다. 면담 지침으로는 교수들이 생각하는 참여 동기, 교과 선정 기준, 교수-학습 방법, 평가 방식, 교과 운영의 성과와 문제 등을 활용 했다. 면담 내용 분석을 통해 확인한 연구 결과의 의미는 크게 세 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 대학 의 전공 교육과정 운영에서 교수들이 인식하는 ‘논술’이 갖는 가치를 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 대학 교 수진의 교수법 개선에 대한 적극적 의지와 수업 과정에서 직면하는 한계를 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 대학 단위 교육과정 개혁에는 적절한 수준의 지속적인 관리가 필요하다는 것이다. 결론에서는 대학 단 위 차원의 교육과정 개혁에 대한 꾸준한 시도의 필요성과 개혁과정에서 노출된 문제 해결에 초점을 맞추는 내부 평가의 중요성을 언급했다.
This study investigates professors’ perceptions of college curriculum reform implemented at the university level and tries to figure out their perspectives on operating the curriculum. This study collected data through the use of in-depth interviews with ten professors who taught their own courses for the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) introduced to reform the curriculum at the Chonnam National University in South Korea. The interview index used for interviewing includes participation motives, criteria of selecting the course for the WAC, teaching-learning methods, evaluation methods, performances and problems from teaching their courses. This paper summarizes the meanings of the results by dividing them into three themes. First, professors emphasize the value of an argumentive writing for teaching the major subjects. Second, there exist both a strong willingness of participants to improve their teaching methods and a limitation of their performance. Third, the university should pay attention to keep a management system for monitoring and supporting the curriculum reform. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the continuous efforts to reform the curriculum at the university level and stress the importance of inside evaluation mainly focusing on solving the problems appeared on the reform process.
