본 연구는 대안적 복지/재활 서비스 전달체계로서의 시각장애인 자립생활센터의 필요성에 관한 논거를 제시하는 데에 있다. 이 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 먼저 장애발생 시기||| 시각장애의 원인||| 가족 역동성 등과 같이 시각장애인의 삶에 영향을 미치는 심리?사회적 요인의 이해에 필요한 핵심적 내용들을 간략 히 살펴보았다. 다음으로||| 자립생활운동과 자립생활센터의 내용을 개괄하였다. 끝으로||| 미국의 사례를 중 심으로 시각장애인들에게 필요한 재활 서비스를 제공하고 동료지지에 기반한 심리적 적응을 지원할 수 있는 대안적 서비스 전달모형으로서의 시각장애인 자립생활센터의 설립과 운영 필요성 등을 네 가지 근 거를 들어 설명하였다.

영문초록

This review paper attempted to provide rationale that center for independent living can become a viable alternative service delivery model for people who are blind. To this end||| an author examined core elements(e.g.||| an onset of visual impairment||| causes of visual impairment||| family dynamics)||| instrumental to understand psychological and social factors influencing the lives of people with blindness or visual impairment. This paper also provided a brief overview regarding independent living movement as well as services that center for independent living provides. Finally||| based on examples in the United States||| four reasons to establish a center for independent living specified for people with visual impairment||| as an alternative service delivery model||| is addressed in order to better serve this population and to promote a variety of advocacy activities.
