현대 박물관의 활동과 기능은 실물자료를 근거로 크게 자료수집 정리보관 조사연구 사회교 육의 4가지 기능을 갖는다 이들 기능은 다시 「수집 · 보존」, 「조사 · 연구」, 「전시 · 교육」의 3가지 로 정리될 수 있으며 이 중에서도 조사 · 연구 기능은 박물관의 가장 중요한 기능이라 할 수 있다 하지만 최근 들어 박물관의 조사 · 연구 기능보다는, 교육기능과 역할에 보다 많은 관심이 집 중되고 있는 것이 현실이다. 따라서 박물관마다 전시 · 교육활동에 토대가 되는 조사 · 연구 활 동에 관심을 갖고 조사연구 대 상에 대한 구체적인 분야와 내 용을 정리, 시행함으로서 다각적이 고 다목적인 박물관 운영에 도움이 될 것으로 기대해 본다. 이 글에서는 이러한 문제점을 인식하고 해결방안을 모색하기 위해 경기도와 경기문화재단에 서 2004년부터 진행하고 있는 경기도 실학박물관(이하 실학박물관)의 국내 · 외 조사 · 연구 활 동을 중심으로 자료 수집 및 조사과정에서 겪은 여러 시행착오와 성과를 제시하고자 한다. 그 리하여 향후 박물관의 바람직한 조사 연구 활동방향과 그 문제점을 공론화하고 이에 대한 해 결방안도 모색할 수 있도록 기초자료로 활용되어지길 바란다.
The activity and function in these days are consisted of the document collection , arrangement, research and the socia1 education by the rea1 data. These functions are put into three parts: "collection and preservation" research and study' and "exhibition and education'. 1 believe that "research and study in museums are the most important function. There is little acknow1edgement of tasks in "research and study' among museum staffs in these days. It is unusua1 that the museum is estab1ished and managed for the purpose of study on1y. Some of museums are focusing on the function and ro1e of education recently. In the near future , many museums will progress the other functions smooth1y when they achieved a definite fie1d and contents re1ated. In this article , 1 wou1d like to present various tria1s and products of Gyeonggi-Do Shi1hak Museum estab1ished by the Gyeonggi Cultura1 Foundation , which recognized this problems and groped the solution p1ans since 2004. It is hopefu1 that the Shi1hak Museum has being achieved to collect , document, investigate and research a lot of the concerned materials at home, China and Japan.
