The present study examined the effects of processes variables in the acceptance-commitment
and self-compassion group therapy on the depression, shame, guilt, acceptance behavior,
psychological well-being mothers of children with development disabilities. Eight sessions of
the were administered. Twelve mothers of children with developmental disabilities were
assigned to treatment group and thirteen were assigned to control group. Both the treatment
group and the control group were given pre-treatment, post-treatment, and the month follow-up
assesment on the depression, shame, guilt, acceptance behavior, self-compassion, psychological
well-being. The results showed that at the post-treatment assesment, the treatment group
reported significantly higher acceptance behavior, self-compassion, psychological, well-being.
And reported significantly lower depression symptoms compared to the control group. In
addition, at the follow-up assessment, the effects of the treatment group was maintained. No
significant changed on shame and guilt. Results indicated that treatment group treatment effect
than the control group depression, acceptance behavior, self-compassion, psychological
well-being. These results suggest that the acceptance-commitment group therapy can be applied
effectively. Finally, limitation of the present study and suggestions were discussed for further
studies.
