The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of the sandtray play on the decrease of
the depression and aggression of high school student with disabilities. For the purpose of the
study, this study selected three high school students with disabilities who had depression issues
and showed high aggressive behavior in D high School in B City and sandtray play. Each
subject of this study individually completed fifteen sessions of the sandtray play. These
sessions were twice a week during 50 minutes. The results of this study are as follows;
First, the sandtray play was effective on the depression of the high school students with
disabilities. All of the subjects felt a sense of stability through the sandtray play and showed
relieved depression and improved their self-efficient. Also, comparing to pre-test, post-test
results showed decreased depression score.
Second, the sandtray play was effective on the aggressiveness of the high school students
with disabilities. Results showed that, as the study progress went on, the aggressive behaviors
from students with disabilities were reduced.
As shown above, the results indicated that the sandtray play was an effective method to
reduce the depression and decrease students’ aggressive behaviors in the classroom for the
students with disabilities.
