It is said that King Eoija was able to strengthen his power through a political turmoil at the beginning of his reign. The related article on the Nihonshoki that originated the theory, however, has been found problematic because of the mistakes with a sort of historical arrangement. Actually, he went through the political turmoil in 655, 15 years after his grip of the political power. This theory relates to the formerly made argument that there was a major political change around in 655. The political change, however, never implies the weakened power of his reign. The turmoil in 655 means that he strengthened his power with an exchange of the ruling class. From this aspect, the period of his reign was a time of reconciliation, which never included the friction with the aristocratic class and therefore achieved such praise as Haedongjeoingja(海東曾子). If he had strengthened his power through the bloody political turmoil at the beginning (not in the middle or the later periods) of his career, he would not have achieved the fame of Haedongjeoingja, which meant the pronoun for brotherliness and filial piety. On the other hand, he removed the resistant group of nobility during the later periods of his career, which rearranged the political power around the axis of king and therefore triggered a conflict between the king and the nobility. The chaotic life of the king probably came after the removal of the resistant group, which specifically gives us the hint for his strengthened power. In short, the removal of the loyal subjects means his strengthened political power. Therefore, there is no base in the argument that his power weakened around 15 years after the beginning of his career. He also changed his Crown prince from Yung(隆) to Hyeo(孝), whose mother (Eoingo) vehemently abused her power.
