This study presented one of teaching methods to foster the sensibilities and
abilities of understanding on culture of young children who are supposed to live
in a culturally plural society. It is meaningful to develop teaching materials for
pre-school art appreciation on Oriental and Western artworks including Korean
Traditional ones in creative ways. In order to implement art-appreciation education
on masterpieces, concrete and systematic teaching materials designed to help
pre-school teachers not only understand the concept, goals, and contents but also
instruct appropriate ways for young children should be developed and presented to
them for their teaching.
The purpose of the study was to present teaching materials which are
activity-based and derived its principles from constructivism in order to raise the
effectiveness of art appreciation on artwork. It is believed that they can enhance
young children's good attitude on art appreciation and artistic sensitivities as well
as raise their understanding on art and creativity.
The effectiveness of the application of teaching materials are followings: 1)
they can help young children develop their visual perception and creativity; 2)
they can foster their interest on artwork as well as good attitude on art
appreciation; 3) young children can understand way of lives and culture worldwide
through art appreciation; 4) at last, through this art experience young children are
aware of multi-culture itself and multi-culture environment.
