This study has examined the potential for the use of playfulness in online
arts education programs from the current perspective of integrated education. The
study has added a contribution into arts education in terms of shedding a light on
the value and possibility of playfulness in arts education.
First, the study has reviewed the concept and role of play and playfulness in
the domain of arts and education. Secondly, the research has discussed the value
of playfulness in the current trend of arts education policies in Korea. Thirdly, the
study has identified a case of online integrated arts education program adopting
playfulness supported by Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, and has
provided instructors' perceptions of the educational possibilities and effectiveness of
adopting playfulness in the program. Finally, the study has suggested the need and
potential for adopting playfulness in contemporary arts education.
