The importance of museum education in Korea has been emphasized since
the early 2000s as the number of museum and art museum has rapidly increased.
Since the national curriculum was revised in 2009, various courses regarding
experience-oriented “creative experiential activities” have been newly established in
school curriculums in order to enhance education of creativeness and personality,
and development and dissemination of creation programs have been demanded to
acquire sources for education operations of hands-on field experience. The
museum/art museum education can be a robust foundation in establishing its
identity and above all in fostering elementary, middle, and high school students as
holistic individuals. In that regard, it is important to analyze recognitions about the
creative experiential activity and the role of museum/art museum as well as to
identify related vitalization measures.
