서양미술사를 통해 보면 새로운 매체의 등장 이후 상당 기간 미술가들에게 적응의 시간이 필요했다.뿐만 아니라 미술가와 대중 사이에도 소통의 어려움이 발생하곤 했 다.르네상스 미술의 시작은 원근법1)의 탄생과 함께 시작되었는데,당시 대부분의 미 술가와 대중들은 이전에 익숙해 있던 중세적 공간 표현과의 상이성 때문에 곤혹스러 워 했다.또한 20세기 초 큐비즘의 다시점 공간표현은 르네상스 이래로 400여 년간 서양미술을 지배해 온 공간표현 방식의 근간을 뒤흔들었으며,그에 따라 전위적인 미 술가와 평론가들조차 피카소의 <아비뇽의 처녀들>을 보고 망연자실해야 했다.특히 과학기술의 발달로 20세기 초 다양한 매체가 일상 속으로 다가옴에 따라 실험적인 미 술가들은 그러한 매체를 자신의 미술과 적극적으로 연관시키고자 하였다.그러한 전 통은 1960년대 이후에도 계속되어 비디오 아트,컴퓨터아트,멀티미디어 설치미술,디 지털 아트,웹 아트 등 새로운 방식의 미술이 나타나기에 이르렀다.이처럼 새롭고 다 양한 테크놀로지가 바탕을 이룬 매체가 미술과 결합되면서 대중들은 더욱더 현대미술 로부터 소외감을 느끼게 되었다.
To explore the relationship between art and media, this study focuses on the influence of the photography and the cinema on the modernist painting. These new media, appeared with the development of the science and the technology, began to make a close relationship with the everyday life of the people at the close of the 19th century. At the same time they exercised great influences on the manner of cognition of the people, especially of the modernist artists. Several artists paid a attention to the fact that the photography had ‘the eye of machine’ which lacked the subjective emotions and preconceptions in comparison to the human eyes. Some artists interested in the light on which the photography dependand some concentratedon the movements. In particular, the deep study of the photographers on the movements detonated the birth of the cinema and this new media strongly impressed the notion of ‘the simultaneity’ on the heart of the avant-garde artists. This resulted in Cubist's expression of the space, the dynamism of Futurist, the new concept of ‘photo-still’ and photomontage in the art of Rodtchenko and in the thoughts of ‘nouveau r?alisme’of Fernand L?ger.
