The purpose of this research is to explore the impact of the group therapy using food art therapy
program on Elderly depression and self-efficacy, to verify the FAT effect in two groups experimental
and control group.
The study subjects are 20 elderly who are living in day care center in Gwangju.
Two groups, experimental(n=10) and control groups(n=10), were randomly selected in order to test
Elderly depression scale and self-efficacy through preliminary interview and questionaire method.
This study was carried out from February to April in 2008.
The instruments used for this study were GDS-K(Geriatric Depression Scale in Korea). GDS-K
consisted of thirty items. The more the depression is, the higher the score is.
The instrument of self-efficacy used in this study was developed by sherer & Maddux(1982), and
translated by Hye-Young, Hong(1995).
Major conclusions of this study are as follows :
First, the result of verification FAT had the significant effects on decreasing depression in the elderly.
In the experimental group, level of depression was significantly decreased after FAT.
Especially, in this factorⅡ(the dissatisfaction of life), factorⅢ(languor), factorⅤ (volition loss) were
significantly improved.
Second, the result of verification FAT had the significant effectiveness on promoting the self-efficacy
in the elderly. In the experimental group, level of the self-efficacy was significantly promotioned after
FAT. Especially, general self-efficacy area was improved a lot.
As a result, the present findings support the hypothesis, which states that FAT program has a positive
effect on treatment of the depression and the self-efficacy of elderly.
