The purpose of this study is to aim at examining the influence of movie therapy program on the
enhancement of self-esteem in the therapeutic interventions for children with low self-esteem in
low-income families.
The subject of this study has been selected from two local children center where located in Chil-Gok
district. For experimental groups, we arrange randomly twelve children (five boys and seven girls) from
the H community children's center and twelve children (five boys and seven girls) from the Y
community children's center. After having the eight sessions of group counseling with movies, we
investigated the experimental group and the controlled group and compared the self-esteem scores of
two groups. In statistical analysis, we use SPSS 18.0 software to see homogeneity of two groups. Also,
we use MANCOVA to see the significant difference in pre-test and post-test of experimental group
comparing with control group.
As a result, the movie therapy can influence positively on low class children’s self-esteem. Comparing
to the children who did not participate in the program, the children who did showed increases in
self-esteem scores including sub-area of self-esteem, such as general, social, household, and school
self-esteem.
