Textiles originated at about the same time as human beings and one the oldest things that human use. Textiles begun to be acknowiedged as a material of art from the Bauhaus times(1919-1933) Abstract expression was leading the way to the new era of modern paintings in 1950s. American’s popular form of art at that times. Textile art, with this background of modern painting history, has expressed in various ways. After showing development in materials, technics and forms, this textile art is divided into two parts. One is Plain expression and the other is Cubic expression. The Plain expression includes embroiders, weavings, ties, kinttings, crocher and dyeings, Each field has its own pictorial character. And of there, embroiderys and dyeings are excectionally notable. Cubic expressions include relief forms and complete. Cubic expressions, or soft scuipture. Rslief forms, which have their origin in collage paintings are expressed in two ways-modem embroidery and quilting technics.
