The field of learning disability in Korea has been developed dramatically in terms of quantity and
quality. Nonetheless, only very little amount of educational services has been provided to students
with learning disabilities. In this study. current status and challenges of theories and practices in the
field of learning disability in Korea were analyzed and discussed. The analysis and discussion were
focused on the following topics: demographic information, diagnosis and determination, intervention,
regulations and laws, people’s attitudes to school approaches to learning problems, and research
trends. Some examples of urgent tasks are to collect data for building basic statistics on current
status of learning disabilities in Korea, to establish the criteria, instruments, and procedures for
diagnosing learning disabilities, to disseminate evidence-based intervention, and to build supportive
systems for teaching effectively students with learning disabilities in each classroom. The study
concluded that tools, systems, and professionality of related personals are three essential conditions of
true educational services for students with learning disabilities.
