The purpose of this study is to investigate how the family resilience of the persons with psychiatric
disabilities affect their social adjustment and recovery. To achieve the purpose, this study surveyed 160
persons with psychiatric disabilities and their 160 family members who use local social health facilities in
Busan. With the data collected, this researcher used SPSS 18 to conduct regression analysis. According to
the analysis, first, family resilience of persons with psychiatric disabilities improved their recovery, but
didn't affect their social adjustment. Secondly, the sub factors of family resilience-belief systems,
organizational patterns, and communication-improved their recovery, and only organizational patterns
improved their social adjustment. Given that, it is necessary to make intervention to improve the family
resilience of family members who are exposed to the risk factor of mental disease in family. First, what
needs to improve organizational patterns which affected their recovery and social adjustment are extended
family and social support, expansion of community social network, and security of financial sources.
Secondly, what needs to improve belief systems and communication in families who have persons with
psychiatric disabilities is family education and family counseling that focuses on offering and management
of information on mental diseases.
