The purpose of the study is to present semiological viewpoint as an reading the art works. There are various viewpoints of understanding art. If we understand it by only one standard, we will faced with many problems. In this point, a semiological viewpoint will offer a new eye for understanding art. Art expression is thought to be a sign in the semiology. It\'s a sign that include intention and idea of artist. And comprehension and appreciation of art is thought to be a process of analyzing the sign. Because the picture has a semiological power, it makes viewer appreciator and they give a new meaning to it. In semiology, it considered art work as an organic body that the appreciator\'s analysis continuously influence. Therefore the viewpoint of reading art works is various and as wide as to accept all opinions. Art education, in viewpoint of semiology, has to extend \'an ability of using a sign\' to understanding and teaching of art. In order to this, we need practice to \'reading\' the art as a sign, they can use a character of sign as expression method. The viewpoint of semiology guides us a method to analyze the image and expressions around us and it helps to develop a new sing and to communicate through that. Also in art, it offers us new method to understand and teach the expression, and it enhances various ability of understanding and expressing through the growth of ability to use signs. The semiology is expected to play a role enough as a method of teaching art activity.
