In this paper, I analysed the social studies textbooks of Korea, America and France comparatively to improve the youths\' global consciousness through the social studies education. In the theories of the education for international understanding(EIU) and UNESCO, I selected the categories of analysis and examined the differences of the organizations of the contents and the perspectives of the world issues.
As a result, the contents of EIU are mixed with the nationalism and worldism, described in explanatory or normative sentences in Korean textbooks. In American textbooks, most of the contents are very nationalistic, described in illustrative sentences.
In French textbooks, the contents are organized very differently. In other words, there are not normative sentence to teach social common goods, most of the contents are questions-typed and many pictures which are mirrored in reality. And the perspective of descriptions is cosmopolitan and induces the students approach the problems and judge the social goods themselves. That the level of French youths\' global consciousness was high, according to a
recent research, is not unrelated to the school education and I suggest that the organizations and the sources of the social studies textbooks be selected more considerately.
