This study applied care education using traditional fairy tales to five-year-old children to
investigate the effect it has on children's social perspective-taking abilities and happiness. For the
research subjects, 20 children in the five-year old class attending E daycare center in K city were
selected as the experimental group, and 20 children in the five-year old class from E daycare center
were selected as the comparison group. Care education using traditional fairy tales was carried out in
the experimental group and story-telling activity using theme-based fairy tales was carried out in the
comparison group for 12 sessions. The research tools used were the social perspective-taking
measurement tool that was modified and supplemented by Shin Hyunok(1996), Lee Jugyeong(2007),
Kwon Suyoung(2009) based on the study of Hudson, Forman and Brion was used, and young
children's happiness measurement developed by Lee Eunju(2009). The result showed that the
experimental group that carried out the care education using traditional fairy tales had a positive
effect on the social perspective-taking abilities and happiness compared to the comparison group. This
research result suggests that when care education activities using traditional fairy tales are utilized at
the young children's education site, it can be used as an effective teacher․teaching method for social
perspective-taking abilities and happiness in young children.
