In Korea, digital textbooks has been developed from the 3rd grade to the 5th grade, and 7th
grade primarily for the subject matters of Science, and Social Studies since 2013, and then been
applied to schools since 2014. The purpose of this study was to develop the design principles for
digital textbooks in Korea. The study employed the Delphi technique. The thirty experts answered
questionnaires in three rounds. This study concluded that the design principles for digital textbook
consist of 4 design principles domains and 17 questions. This study suggests that the design
principles for digital textbooks need to be established based upon the integration of technology
development with content design. Further research should be needed to identify the problems and
challenges which may potentially occur during the design and development processes of digital
textbooks.
