우리나라 초등학교 무용교육은 제 1차 체육교육과정 시기부터 현재까지 체육교과 안에서 이루어지고 있다. 국가 수준 체육과 교육과정 문서의 내용 체계를 분석한 결과, 무용 관련 내용 체계가 제대로 성립되어 있지 않음을 알 수 있다. 이는 우리나라 초등학교 체육 수업에서 이루어지는 무용(또는 표현활동) 수업이 교육적 목적과 예술적 가치를 갖추지 못한 채 이루어지는 결정적인 요인으로 작용하고 있다. 이와 같이 초등학교 무용 교육이 교육과정 및 수업 측면에서 문제점을 내포하고 있는 것은 무엇보다도 초등학교 무용교육 연구가 무용 교육과정 개발 및 수업 방법 개선에 크게 도움이 되지 못하고 있기 때문으로 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 우리나라 초등학교 무용 교육 또는 표현활동의 양적 및 질적 발전을 도모하기 위해 초등학교 무용교육의 연구 동향을 분석하고 향후 연구 과제를 제시하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 연구 방법은 KISS 게재된 논문 중 KCI등재지 이상 논문으로 제한하였으며, 검색 키워드를 초등학교 무용수업, 표현활동으로 하여 논문(총 104편)을 찾아 출판 학술지별, 연구자별, 연구주제별, 연구방법별, 연구대상별, 연구상황별로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 관련 논문 출판이 대부분 비(非)교육대학 소속 연구자들에 의해 소수의 학술지에 국한하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 연구주제는 무용교육 논문에서 교수 학습영역이 가장 높은 비율로 나타난 반면, 교사교육 영역 연구는 상대적으로 미진한 것으로 확인되었다. 연구 방법 측면에서는 양적 연구와 질적 연구가 유사하게 활용되고 있었지만, 혼합연구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있었다. 또한 연구 대상 측면에서는 초등학생을 대상으로 하는 연구가 많이 수행된 반면, 이를 교육하는 초등 교사에 대한 연구는 활발하지 않은 것으로 조사되었다. 끝으로, 연구 상황에서는 정규 수업에 대한 논문이 많이 이루어진 반면, 방과후 프로그램에서의 무용 교육 논문은 소수로 이루어지고 있음이 확인되었다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 토대로, 본 연구에서는 몇 가지 미래 연구 과제를 제안하였다. 우선 무용교육학에서의 연구 범위가 확대되어야 하고, 무용관련 교육과정과 수업의 개선을 위한 무용교육 내용체계를 위한 표준화 연구와 무용 수업모형 개발 연구가 필요하며, 무용 교육에 관한 교육대학과 초등학교간의 산학 협동 연구가 활발히 이루어질 필요가 있다.
From the first National Curriculum to the present, dance education in Korea has been regarded as an area of physical education in elementary and secondary education. The contents related dance domain in the national physical education curricula were analyzed and found that the contents are not systematically selected and organized. In addition, it showed lack of consistence of dance related contents in the past and current elementary physical education curriculum. These phenomena resulted from the limited number of research in dance education that are able to provide meaningful knowledge and information for developing dance-related contents in the national elementary physical education curriculum. Thus, the primary purpose of this study is to explore research trends and suggest future research directions in dance education within elementary school physical education. For doing this, a number of articles were searched at KISS and key words such as dance education in elementary schools, creative movement classes, and expressive activity domains were limited. Of 104 articles selected, the articles were analyzed in six-parts: 1) publication journals, 2) type of authors’ career, 3) research domain, 4) research method, 5) research subjects, and 6) situation of dance class. In this study, it was found several limitations with various journal publication, inactive research activity of teacher educator in the elementary level, in-balanced research domain, lack of use of mixed research design, and lack of research on elementary teacher and dance program in after school program. In order to reduce these limitations, four futuristic research tasks were suggested as follows: 1) extending research fields 2) the need of research on standardized dance content system, 3) more research on instructional model in dance education, and 4) the need of research collaboration between university and elementary school.
