The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of Directors and Teachers on Family
Business Succession in child care center. The major findings of the study were as follows: First,
Whether the infant and early childhood education institutions were managed by the families of the
owners or not was analyzed, and 38.2 percent replied that the families of the owners were involved
in management. Second, regarding the awareness of the directors and the teachers on the family
succession of the infant and early childhood education institutions, whether they had an intention to
let their families succeed the management rights was asked, and 52.2 percent answered they had no
such an intention. 28.7 percent didn't consider it, and 19.1 percent had the intention. Concerning
the right age for family business succession, they considered it most reasonable for the successor to
succeed at the age of 35. In regard to the best time for family business succession, 79.5 percent
answered that it would be when the successor seemed to be capable of running the educational
institution. Among personal, professional and leadership qualifications, both groups gave top priority
to personal qualifications. It implies that personality is one of integral qualifications that the directors
of educational institutions should have. As a result of this study, it is judged the succession of family
business of child care center will be very important issue and it does suggest that making the right
succession plan should devise.
