본 연구는 은퇴한 남성 노인학습자들의 학습참여 경험이 노년의 삶에 주는 의미를 탐색하는 데 있 다. 이를 위해 경남 창원지역 C기관의 노인요리교실에 참여한 7명의 남성 노인학습자들을 심층면 담하였다. 연구결과, 요리교실 참여경험은 크게 세 가지로 범주화되었다: 동기, 과정, 결과. 먼저, 배움의 동기에서는 ‘홀로서기’, ‘배려하기’로, 배움의 과정에서는 ‘학습의 기쁨’, ‘소통의 부재’로, 배 움의 결실에서는 ‘행복한 밥상’, ‘외조의 첫걸음’으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 통해 은퇴한 남성 노인학습자에게 있어 요리교실 참여경험은 ‘요리라는 매개체를 통해 자신감 향상, 가족/친지와의 소 통, 그리고 가족 구성원으로 거듭남’의 의미를 가지고 있었다. 따라서 본 연구결과는 현재 압축적인 초고령화 사회의 진입을 앞두고 있는 한국사회에서 남성 노인요리프로그램이 은퇴한 남성 노인들의 일상생활 정착과 부부 및 가족 간의 원활한 소통에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있음을 밝히고 있다. 이 에 노인요리프로그램의 질이 보다 전문적이고 확장될 필요가 있음을 제언하고자 한다.
This study is to explore how the learning experience of the male retirees influences their life in old age. We interviewed the seven learners who participated in the cooking class at the C organization in Changwon, Gyeongnam area. We categorize the learning experience into three (stages/types): the motivation, the process, the evaluation. The motivation stage is characterized as ‘doing by oneself’, ‘caring’; in the process stage is characterized as ‘the joy of learning’, ‘absence of communication’; the evaluation stage is characterized as ‘happy meal’, ‘the first step of a devoted husbands for wife!’. Based on the results, we find that the experience in cooking class can help the retired senior male learners to improve their confidence, to communicate more with their family, and to become more attached to their family. This means that cooking programs can help the senior male to settle down to the life after retirement and to improve communication with their spouse and family. Therefore, we suggest that it is necessary to implement this program more widely and improve the quality of it.
