In this paper, we have evaluated the overseas status of induction melting technology applied for treatment of metal waste generated from the nuclear power decommissioning process. Up to now, about six(6) countries have treated the metal waste for waste volume reduction and recycling by using the induction melting technology. The induction melting technology for the metal waste treatment has been used since 1987 in the nuclear industry. The induction melting technology is reliable and more economic compared to the other conventional technologies such as the electric arc. The commercial operation of the Kori #1 will be shutdown in June 2017 and a lot of meltal waste will be generated from its decommissioning process. It is expected the induction melting technology would be a candidate solution to treat the metal waste generated from the Kori #1 decommissioning project. A study by using the induction melting technology needs to be performed to optimize the safety process inside of the nuclear industry.
