In the face of the appearance of smartphone and SNS, today’s people are
bound to the great chain of communication. They share every moment of their
daily life with others. On the other hand, they still experience isolation and
lack of communication. Thus today’s society has the contradictory problems,
which arise simultaneously from the abundance and the absence of the
communication. Why do we get into this paradoxical situation? Because we
focus only on quantitative communication. Thus we should be interested in the
quality of communication.
The present essay attempts to establish the essential character of
communication on the basis of Jaspers’ existentialist standpoint in order to find
a solution to the communication problem in today’s society. According to
Jaspers, we are closer to Dasein communication(Daseinskommunikation), such as
the communication of Dasein, that of consciousness at all, and that of the
mind(Geist). This communications differ from existential communication. But as
the people of today come into the communication of existence, they become
more and more lonely.
Regarding this problem, this work attempts to show how loneliness leads us
to existential communication. If communication is not only an exchange of
information with others, but also the basic condition for human being to be
fulfilled, the most important task of philosophy is to let us be ourselves by
dissolving the communication problem. In this way this treatise is brought to the conclusion: By the elucidation of existence, which leads to real self and
originates from the authenticity of existential communication, the psychical
suffering usually can be healed in the communication itself.
