Shingles is a common illness with increasing incidence, increasing severity of symptoms and increased
risk of complications as age advances. This study was performed to examine the difference of perception
and performance of the shingles vaccination. For this study, descriptive survey was conducted among the
180 adults older than 50 years who visited outpatient clinic of a general hospital. The data form 171 participant's were analysed using SPSS 21.0 program for frequency and percentage, mean, standard
deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe, χ²-test, and logistic regression. As a result, the perception of shingles
vaccination was 1.58 points on average. The percentage of subjects who performance a vaccination against
shingles was 12.9%. Performance of a vaccination against shingles in a high perception of shingles
vaccination were 3.68 times higher than low perception(OR: 3.68, p=.044). The finding of this study
showed that vaccination more effective to improve strategies need to enhance the performance of
vaccination target population with above 50 years. And also, more efforts need to be made in informing
and encouraging these individuals to get shingles vaccination.
