The purpose of this study is to investigate the identity of the post-doctoral researchers in
science and technology based on the interaction between agents and structure. This study was
analyzed by the theory of structuration as the creation and reproduction of social systems.
According to the theory of structuration, structure is both a mediator and a result of human
action and it means constraining as well as enabling. This study have been performed by
case-study as a research method focusing on heemang institute for revealing structure includes
organizational culture as a microstructure as well as macro-social systems and policies.
The results are as follows. The first, the post-doc. researchers in heemang institute have very
few opportunity to employment because there is the dual recruiting system. The second, there is
the discrimination of the space structure between the researchers situated permanent position and
the post-doc. researchers as non regular workers. The third, Project based system(PBS) has
caused the governance that the permanent employee superintend the post-doc. researchers. The
forth, the policy of the better treatment of the post-doc. researchers was distorted.
Therefore, many young researchers in science and technology have experienced the crisis of
identity. This study have revealed most participants acclimated themselves for keeping their
identity and reproduced the social structure by the routinization. But some participants refused the
routinized behavior. On such an occasion as this, it is beginning to crack out the structure that
has suppressed them.
