Choking technique is an unique technique to pressure on common carotid artery, which can block blood circulation from heart to cerebrum.. To investigate potential risks of choking technique, national judokas who have visual impairment(B1~B3) were choked by Okuri-Eri-Jime. We observed intraocular pressure, heart rate, blood lactate, and the whole body reaction time. The choking time prior to unconsciousness was at average 20.6±1.5sec, and the recovery time was 180±0.4sec. Heart rate was significantly increased immediately after choking(p<.05) and then it was recovered by resting value. Whole body reaction time was significantly increased by choking (p<.05). which meant negative motor performance. But intraocular pressure and blood lactate level were not influenced by choking.
According to the these results, Choking technique might partially cause negative performance in visual impaired national judokas. furthermore, It is necessary to investigate multiple factors on potential risks in situation of practice and competition for visual impaired sport events.
