As the fundamental investigation of the development of traveling assistive device for people with visual impairments, a trend of interior traveling assistive device was surveyed. Therefore, present condition of currently used assistive devices for the blind and the opinions of the user were investigated. First of all, we studied assistive devices for the blind introduced in the inside and outside of the country. Then we made questionnaire about recognition, application and supply of such devices; it had 24 questions about assistive devices and its use. 184 blind person in 9 special educational schools and 2 private organizations in Korea were presented the response. From the questionnaire, the species, advantages, disadvantages, and improvement opinion mostly used assistive device were examined. The results of the survey will provide very valuable informations about the functions and conveniences those the disabled persons request and it will be practically used as the basic data for the development of assistive device for the blind.
