칼데콧 수상 도서는 주로 다문화 이해와 다른 사람 이해를 주제로 하고 있어 세계적으로 다문화 이해 를 위한 공감대를 형성하고 있는 상으로 인식되고 있다. 이런 독특성으로 인해 칼데콧 수상 도서는 다른미디어, 즉 뉴미디어의 독특한 기법으로 다시 세밀하게 표현되어지고 있다. 아울러 칼데콧 상 수상도서들은 어린이들의 언어 학습 경험을 증진하는데 필요한 반복과 예측이 있는 문장으로 되어 있어 이러한 그림책들을 활용하여 총체적 언어에 대한 통합적 교수 계획을 세워 전개하는 것이 유아들에게 유익한 경험이 될 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 내용으로 2006년 칼데콧 상 수상도서의 분석및 교육적 적용을 제시하였다: 첫째, 2006년도 칼데콧 상의 개요 및 분석; 둘째, 2006년 칼데콧 상 메달상 수상도서인「The Hello, Goodbye Window」의 유치원 교육과정으로의 통합적 계획 및 전개 사례. 그 결과 2006 칼데콧 수상도서를 활용한 교육적 적용은 유아의 학습 경험, 특히 언어 및 창의성을 증진시키는데 도움이 되는 것으로 나타났다.
The Caldecott Medal is widely recognized as an award that arouses multi-cultural awareness in worldwide because the subject of Caldecott books for the most part is about understanding of multi-culture and other people. On account of this characteristic Caldecott books has been finely re-presented with diverse media in new and unique ways. Caldecott Medal and Honor books that are constructed with repetition and predictable sentence which promote children’s language development would provide instructive experiences for children when they are applied for children with an integrated teaching approach regarding the whole language. Therefore, this study presents the analysis and educational application with Caldecott books in 2006 as follows; First, the plot and analysis of Caldecott books in 2006; Second, integrated plan and case study to preschool curriculum with The Hello, Goodbye Window, which won Caldecott Medal in 2006. In conclusion, this study suggested that the application of 2006 Caldecott books in early childhood education helps learning experiences, especially for creativity and language development of young children.
