본 연구는 가톨릭 노인 중에서 종교성향 즉 내재적 종교성향과 외재적 종교성향에 따라 삶의 만족도에 어떠한 차이가 있는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 가톨릭노인 86명을 대상으로 하여 종교를 내면적 동기화하여 삶을 살아가는 내재적 종교성향을 가진 노인들과 종교를 자기위안과 합리화를 위한 수단으로 이용하는 외재적 종교성향을 가진 노인들 간의 삶의 만족도를 분석해 본결과, 내재적 종교성향을 가진 노인은 삶의 만족도와 정적 상관관계를 나타내었고, 외재적 종교성향을 가진 노인은 삶의 만족도와 부적 상관관계를 나타내었다. 인구사회학적 특성을 통제한 후 분석한 결과에서도 내재적 종교성향이 삶의 만족도에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 기초로 내재적 종교성향을 가진 노인들의 신앙심을 더욱 공고히 해 주고 외재적 종교성향을 지닌 노인을 내재적 종교성향으로 바꿔줄 수 있는 가톨릭교회차원의 영성개발 측면에서 제언하였다.
This study is to examine the difference in life satisfaction between intrinsic religious orientation and extrinsic religious orientation by analysing elderly believers\' religious dispositons. Objects of investigation were 86 elderly persons as the Catholic believers and they were devided into two groups for this research. One group was to sublimate religion into intrinsic motive, another group was to use it as a means of self-comfort and rationalization. The results of such analysis are as follows. There is close correlation between life satisfaction and intrinsic or extrinsic religious belief. And believers who get an enhanced disposition in the side of intrinsic religious orientation are more satisfied with their lives than believers of a low intrinsic disposition. On the basis of findings in this research, I want to make overtures of a fitting program for cultivation and strengthening of the intrinsic spirituality. Accordingly, each religious organization is obliged to develop and apply various programs in the religious side for the glow of their lives because the Catholic elderly who have an enhanced inclination in the side of intrinsic religious orientation is more satisfied than the elderly of extrinsic religious orientation.
