최근 정현종과 임영조의 시가 독자나 비평가들로부터 큰 관심을 받고 있다. 그 이유는 첫째로 사물에 대한 깊은 통찰력으로 생동감과 신선한 충격을 주고 있다는 점, 둘째로는 자연 친화적 서정시를 쓰면서 우주적이고 역동적인 상상력의 세계를 보여주고 있다는 점, 셋째로는 생태주의 내지 생명주의 시풍을 드러내면서 관능적 열락의 세계로 블랙홀의 구심 력과 원심력의 공간 이미지를 보여주고 있다는 점 등이다. 정현종의 시에서 ‘풀’과 ‘바람’ 은 우주적 상상력과 관능적 생명주의의 시적 코드로서 블랙홀의 시학을 형성하고 있다. 그 리고 임영조의 시에서의 ‘산’과 ‘섬’은 생기론적 코드로서 탈속(脫俗)의 질료로 작용하고 있으며, ‘꽃’과 ‘풀’은 채움의 열락적 코드로 작용하고 있다. 그런데 두 시인 모두 자아와 세계의 동일성, 곧 정경교융(情景交融)의 시적 논리가 적용되면서 생태학적, 생명주의적, 애욕적 상상력을 드러내고 있다는 점이 특이하다. 결국, 이러한 이들 두 시인의 시풍은 동 양시학적 특질과 더불어, 이 시대가 요구하는 생태학적 상상력과 생명주의 시를 지향한다 는데 의미가 있으며, 나아가 한국 현대 서정시의 새로운 지평을 보여준다는 데 큰 의의가 있다.
Poems by Jung Hyeon-jong and Ihm Young-jo have got attention and interests of their readers and critics. The reasons can be explained as follows: First, their profound insight into things arouses liveliness and fresh shock; second, they both show the cosmic and dynamic world of imagination while writing pro-natural lyrics; third, their poems represent the sensual world of pleasure with centripetal force and spatial image with centrifugal force, revealing poetic trends of ecology and animism. ‘Grass’ and ‘wind’ as the symbols of cosmic imagination and sensual animism in Jung\'s poems form the poetics of blackhole with centripetal force. ‘Mountain’ and ‘island’ as the symbols of vitalism in Ihm\'s poems work as the themes of unearthliness, and ‘flower’ and ‘grass’ as symbols of pleasure work as the themes of filling up. Their poetic characteristics are significant in that their poems showing the properties of oriental poetics are oriented to the ecological imagination and vitalism and open a new horizon for the Korean modern lyrics.
