This study was to systematically develop a group counseling program based in transactional analysis for enhancing self-esteem and interpersonal relationship of highschool students, and validate its effectiveness. The research questions of this study were as follows: First, what is the content of group counseling program based in transactional analysis for enhancing self-esteem and interpersonal relationship of high school students? Second, how effect has the program to enhance self-esteem of high school students? Third, how effect has the program to enhance interpersonal relationship of high school students?
In order to solve the research questions, the following method was employed; First, by exploring the characteristics of transactional analysis, and next, by reviewing the literature and experiential studies about self-esteem and interpersonal relationship based in transactional analysis, the factors of the program were extracted and the group counseling program was constructed.
To verify the constructed program, identified 20 students randomly distributed equally to experimental group and control group. After the experiment, the collected data were analysed using MANCOVA test. And in order to complement the shortage of quantitative analysis, the journals of participants and results of satisfaction test were analysed additionally.
The results of this study were as follows: First, the TA group counseling program for enhancing the self-esteem and interpersonal relationship of high school students can be constructed with various factors involving structural and functional analysis on ego state; transactional analysis; stroke; time structuring; game analysis; life position; life script analysis. Second, the self-esteem test scores of experimental group members were improved significantly comparing with those of the control group members. It shows that the constructed program is effective. Third, the interpersonal relationship test scores of experimental group members were improved significantly comparing with those of the control group members. It shows that the constructed program is effective.
