The purposes of this study are to confirm motivation which are influenced on the continuous studying of
vocational high school students with school drop-out intention and suggest the basics of efficient strategy
for helping adolescent in school drop-out crisis. To achieve them, for 353 male students in the first grade
of vocational high schools located in Seoul, this study examined the relationship among the motivation,
lifestyle and emotion of them who have school drop-out intention. The concrete results of studying are as
follows. The first, there were 138 students who have school drop-out intention among the total 353
students. Among them, there were 97 students with approach motivation and 41 students with avoidance
motivation. The second, t-test was conducted so as to examine emotional differences by motivation. As the
result, there were significant differences. The third, approach motivation and positive emotion showed
significant positive correlation (r=.215, p<.05) and approach motivation also showed significant positive
correlation with lifestyle (r=.243, p<.05) and belonging-social concern (r=.287, p<.01). Belonging-social
concern which is the subvariable of lifestyle scale showed significant negative correlation (r=-.208, p<.05)
with negative emotion and significant positive correlation (r=.341, p<.01) with positive emotion. The
third, in the relationship between approach motivation and positive emotion, the mediate effect of
belonging-social concern was significant. The results of this study are expected to be the fundamental
material which establishes effective strategy of consulting vocational high school students with school
drop-out intention in the future.
