Researches on educational support for hearing-impaired children have been focused on hearing loss and
verbal defect. One of the methods of support or strategies was to let parents or family members of
hearing-impaired children participate in early education of their children and the government made laws to
help their activities. This paper was to review how this kind of effort for more than 10 years has an
affect on education environments or researches by analyzing previous papers. There were 9 papers related
to parents of hearing-impaired children or their family support. Most of the previous papers were to find
out the degree of support that the parents have rather than to adopt the parents support. Experimental
researches adopting parents support as independent variable were just two. Bases on the previous researches,
this paper suggested the followings;
First, it is essential to research on the support for parents of hearing-impaired children. Since 2000, the
researches on parents or family support in educational environment have shown that the concern and
practice of support of hearing-impaired children or their family support were weak.
Second, a specific support program and support strategy that the parents of hearing-impaired children
want needs to be established. Of course, Korea family support-related laws stipulate provisions of family
counsel, parents education, family support program, etc. Even though, those laws emphasize family support,
it is found that kinds of service programs and their practice are still weak.
