본 연구는 만 7세 미만의 영유아들의 디지털 기기 사용 경험 및 부모와 교사의 견해에 대해서 알아보 고자, 서울과 경기도에 위치한 유치원과 어린이집에 재학 중인 영유아 392명의 부모(392명)와 교사 (66명)를 상대로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 대부분의 연구대상 영유아들이 디지털 기기를 사용한 경험 이 있으며, 어린 연령일수록 더 일찍 디지털 기기를 접하는 것으로 나타났다. 영유아들은 부모들이 가 정에서 집안일이나 직장일을 할 때 혹은 차로 이동할 때 디지털 기기를 사용하는 것으로 보고되었고, 부모들은 필요하다고 생각될 때나 시간을 정해놓고 자녀들의 디지털 기기 사용을 허용하는 것으로 나 타났다. 연구에 참여한 대부분의 부모들은 자녀들의 디지털 기기 사용에 대해 걱정을 하고 있었으나, 소수의 부모만이 전문가와 상담경험이 있다고 보고하였다. 교사들은 기관에서 영유아들의 디지털 기 기 사용 모습을 놀이와 대화 속에서 관찰하였다고 보고하였고, 대다수의 교사들은 디지털 기기 사용 을 찬성하였으나, 시작연령을 고려하여 시간을 제한하면서 사용할 필요가 있다고 생각하였다.
This research aimed to find out the current status of use of digital media by young children under seven years of age and the opinions of parents and teachers regarding the use of such media. The survey data were collected in 8 early childhood centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do and included 392 preschool children and their parents and 66 teachers The findings yielded that many young children have used digital media in their early age and the younger children were found to experience such use earlier in their age. Many children occasionally used digital media while their parents were occupied with housework or at work or they were moving in a car. Meantime, the parents reported that they allowed their children to use digital media when such use seemed to be necessary or during specific pre-determined duration. Although many parents were concerned about the use of digital media, approximately 20% of them have consulted experts on this subject. The teachers observed that their students pretended to use digital media during play time in the centers, and many of the teachers consented to such use while recommending to consider the age of children and control time of use of digital media.
