This study is to analyze the forms of narrative text described in science textbooks in
Korea high school. For this purpose, we selected the energy related contents from 6 type science
textbooks. The contents of ‘Energy and Civilization’, ‘Energy problem and Future’ were
investigated with the presence of narrative text and analyzed by the frame of narrative
components. As a results, writing method for a textbook was mostly expository text, but less than
10% was narrative text. And narrative texts were written for motivation in introduction, for
concept understanding in main text. Also, narrative text were written by method of sequential
story and description which were everyday experience or events in the past. To the conclusion,
narrative text still does not appear much in the textbooks, and ‘an integral representation with the
principle of natural through the story about history of space and life’ is considered during
development of the curriculum has not been properly implemented.
