This study was to examine the direct and indirect influences of work environment, teacher
competency on teacher efficacy, and explore multigroup differences of these relations on job
position(i.e., head teacher and teacher) in Korean elementary school. The subjects were 375
elementary school teachers in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province. Measures of the
teacher competency, teacher efficacy, and work environment were administered. Teacher
competency mediated between work environment and teacher efficacy. As result of
multi-group analysis, there were no significant differences found in job position. Positive
work environment increases teacher competency as well as teacher efficacy. Moreover, work
environment had positive direct effects on teacher efficacy without differences in job
position. To teachers of both position, work environment helps to enhance teacher efficacy.
Therefore, to improve teachers' efficacy, teacher competency must be required and to
enhance teachers' competency, work environment need to be improved.
