The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of the common social studies major(the integrated course of social studies) from the perspectives of social studies students in college of education. For the solving, I select the one teachers college of Pioneer National University as the study location and tried to make the interpretive understanding the related phenomena with the methodology of ethnographic case study. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. Since the Common Social Studies Major composed of the basic or introductory courses of three existing social studies major, it has not uniqueness in quality and there is not responsible and administrative subject for the management of that curriculum. Students just understand the new major as the means of acquiring the premium points in social studies teachers appointment test, there can not be found the major identity of the Common Social Studies Major among students attending the course of new major. In sum, we can just find inconsistency which is remote from students real life in the process of organization and the management of the new major. Because this inconsistency, the Common Social Studies Major can lead to the failure of the sense of the real identity as the Common Social Studies student. To solve the problems as above, it is necessary to organize and manage the curriculum of the Common Social Studies major not being separated from the real life of students, and to construct the theory and reveal the nature of the Common social studies Major for bring up the expert the Common Social Studies teachers.
