The purpose of this study was to implement history centered reading education in school
libraries and examine the effects of history centered reading education on elementary school
students’ interest in history in order to provide children with opportunities to cultivate
the attitude to properly look at history. To this end, history centered reading education
on two classes of third-year students of K Elementary School located in Gwangmyeong-si,
Gyeonggi-do from November 2013 to February 2014 in the school library. A pretest of interest
in history was conducted in November 2013 and a post test of interest in history conducted
in February 2014. Since the results of analysis of the study indicated that the history
centered reading education in the school library implemented on third-year students of
elementary school affected the students’ interest in history, history reading educational
programs should be expanded to all elementary school years.
