The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of art therapy on the PTSD symptoms, and
anxiety, and assertiveness of a PTSD child with a traffic accident. As a client of this study, a 7-year-old,
school-aged child who had been in a diagnosis as PTSD by a traffic accident and had been diagnosed by a
neurologist as having PTSD received the art therapy. The including; Checklist for Behavioral PTSD
Symptoms, K-PIC, BDT, ASS, and K-HTP were administered before and after the intervention to investigate
the effects of art therapy. The results studied were as follows: First, the implementation of the Checklist for
Behavioral PTSD Symptoms decreased the child’s PTSD symptoms of the child. Secondly, the application of
the K-PIC decreased the child’s anxiety scale score in the pre-tests as well as in the post-tests. Taking the
BDT as the pre-post-test of the art therapy program also decreased her symptoms. Thirdly, the K-HTP as
the pre-post-test affected the child by increasing her score on the ASS. Lastly, the analysies of her
comments that occurred during each art therapy session throughout all process of art therapy indicated that
the features of her avoidance and anxiety from the traffic accident, and the difficulty in expressing her own
assertiveness were alleviated into the alleviated attitude. It is concluded that this art therapy had a positive
effect on the PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and assertiveness of the PTSD child with a traffic accident.
