본 연구는 대학생의 개인 배경에 따른 수업 외 활동 패턴을 탐색하고, 대학생의 수업 외 활동이 능 동적 협동적 학습과 대학 몰입에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 수업 외 활동은 교수와의 교류 활동, 수 업 준비 및 심화 학습 활동, 교내외 근로 활동, 자기계발 활동으로 구분하였다. 연구 대상은 전국 84 개 대학에 재학 중인 49,775명의 학생이다. 일원배치 분산분석과 다층모형 분석을 수행하였다. 1주일 당 시간 투자의 면에서, 대학생들은 수업준비 및 심화학습에 가장 많은 시간을 투자하였고, 다음으로 자기계발 활동, 근로활동의 순서였다. 수업 외 시간에 이루어지는 교수와의 교류는 그리 활발하지 않 은 편이었다. 남학생들이 여학생보다, 학년이 올라갈수록 모든 형태의 수업 외 활동 시간이 많았다. 고소득층 학생일수록 교수와의 교류, 수업 준비 및 심화 학습, 자기계발 활동에 투자하는 시간이 많았 지만, 저소득층 학생일수록 교내외 근로 시간이 많았다. 수업 외 시간에 이루어지는 교수와의 교류는 능동적 협동적 학습과 대학 몰입에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 대학생의 근로활 동 시간은 능동적 협동적 학습에 부적인 영향을 미쳤다. 본론에서는 본 연구의 결과가 주는 이론적 함의와 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문초록

This study examined the patterns of out-of-class activities by gender, grade, and family income of students and the effects of out-of-class activities on active and collaborative learning and institutional commitment of students. Samples include 49,775 students from 84 universities in Korea. One way ANOVA and Hierarchical Linear Modeling were conducted. Students were found to spend more hours in the following order: preparing for class, participating in co-curricular activities, and working for pay on/off campus. More hours were spent for out-of-class activities by male compared to female students and by the upper graders compared to the lower ones. Higher income students than their counterparts were found to spent more hours in interactions with faculty members, class preparation, and participations in co-curricular activities while lower income students spent more hours for works. Student-faculty interaction was found to be positively related to active and collaborative learning and institutional commitment of students.
