The purpose of this study was to investigate the response of children on picture book and to improve the effects of developmental bibliotherapy program. The subjects of this study were seven 5 years old children and two teachers taking care of them in early childhood settings. The instruments used to assess social competence was Lee, Hey-Won(2005)'s social competence inventory and teachers 'interview- data by qualitative research.
The result of this study could be summarized as follows.
First, developmental bibliotherapy program had an positive effect on the response of children about picture book such as to improve the capacity to express their opinion freely and self-understanding.
Second, developmental bibliotherapy program improved young children's social competence, especially, self regulation and understanding social knowledge.
Third, teachers responded that as a result of bibliotherapy program, the subjects showed acceptable interaction with peers, verbal expression, positive emotion and interest in picture books.
