Gender studies have been current issues in the Korean society because of changes in sex roles during the past 25 years. The Korean government has recently enacted many statutes upgrading gender egalitarianism. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the effects on enhancement of gender egalitarianism in the education program, called ‘Education Program for Gender Egalitarianism,’ which consists of the contents on sex roles and gender equality.
Two hundred thirteen (35 males and 178 females) college students, who were subjected to the study, were selected from H, K, and S Universities in Seoul and Kyunggi Province. The subjects were divided into three groups. The first group, consisting of 71 students, was assigned to Experimental Group 1 using online method. The second group, consisting of 72 students, was assigned to Experimental Group 2 using face-to face lecture method. And the third group, consisting of 70 students, was assigned to the Control Group. The measurement instrument used for the study was the ‘Korean Gender Egalitarianism Scale (KGES).’ In order to analyze the data collected during the study, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Schffe’ s Post Hoc Tests were used with SPSS 14.00.
The results of the study were summarized as follows: There was a significant effect on the enhancement in the total score of egalitarianism measurement for the experimental (online and lecture) groups. For the online group, there was a significant difference in the score of KGES between pre- and post-tests (t=8.14, p < .001). For the lecture group, there was also a significant difference in the score of KGES between pre- and post-tests (t=9.51, p < .001). However, there was no significant difference between the online and lecture groups in the post-test score of KGES. And there was significant difference in the score for KGES among online, lecture, and control groups in the post-test score of KGES (F=25.33, p < .001).
