The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of Art Therapy on the emotional and behavioral problems of a child with ADHD. The participant in this study was a 9 year-old
child, and he participated in Art Therapy with sixteen sessions once a week from December
2004 to March 2005. Data collected in this study was analyzed with assessment tools
(evaluation instruments) and behavior observation. Korea Personality Inventory for Children
(KPI-C) and Landscape Montage Technique (LMT) were used as assessment tools in order to
examine the change of child’s emotional and behavioral problems. The findings in this study are
as follows.
As a result of evaluation with KPI-C and LMT, Art Therapy was effective in developing the
ADHD child\'s self-consciousness, removing his depression, and forming his friendly relationships with peers, family members, and teachers. And it brought the positive improvement of his attention deficits. In addition, this study examined observed behaviors, and found that the ADHD child’s habits of stuttering and biting his nails were disappeared, and that he could take an objective view of his problems. Also, as a result of observation the child problematic behaviors were disappeared in his school and home. In conclusion, the study shows that Art Therapy has positive effects on improving the ADHD child\'s emotional and behavioral problems.
