The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of the group art-therapy program on
depression, stress-coping, and self-esteem for depressive adolescents. The subjects were 28
middle school students with their parents agreement, who got higher than 20 points at CDI.
They were divided into experimental(n=14) and control(n=14) groups. The total number
consisted of 10 sessions and each session lasted for 90 minutes. The depression scale,
self-esteem scale, and stress coping ability scale were used. The ANCOVA showed that
significant differences between experimental and control groups were found at post test on
depression, self-esteem, and problem-focused and social support coping. The repeated ANOVA showed that the subjects who received group art-therapy program reported more significant improvements at post-test than at pre-test on depression, self-esteem, and problem-focused coping & social support coping, while control group didn\'t report significant improvements at post-test. At 4 week follow-up test, the effects of experiment group lasted on depression, self-esteem, and problem-focused coping and social support coping. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
