The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of group art therapy program on the
empathy of school counsel volunteers. The participants of this research were 7 school counsel volunteers who had volunteered to be school counsel volunteer in S elementary school. This program lasted from April, 2008 to June, once a week for 10 sessions at the school counselling room. Research tool was empathy scaleand analyzed by Non parametric Statistics Analysis Wilcoxon signed-ranks Test. Before empathy score was compared with after empathy score and after empathy score was compared with follow-up empathy score. Observed expressed empathies by school counsel volunteers through every sessions were compared.
The results of the study were as follows; First, there was the positive change on empathy score. there was little change on the cognitive empathy score and there was the positive change on the emotional empathy score. Second, there was the positive change that observed expressed empathies by school counsel volunteers through every sessions. The group art therapy have lots of benefits that group member could experience empathy through artwork, products, therapists and other members. Group art therapy has positive effectiveness on empathy of school counsel volunteers It is not easy to generalize this study, but the following studies through group art therapy were asked to school counsel volunteers through
role-playes, games, education, debates.
